Principles of the ovariectomized rat model. The effects of ovariectomy (OVX) on circadian rhythms in the tail skin temperature of the rat. In the intact animal, the temperature baseline is lowered during the active nocturnal phase. In the ovariectomized animal, the temperature in this episode is elevated, which results in a reduction of the distance to the baseline of the quiescent phase.
